40 Years in the Dark: How the Emotion Code® Ended a Lifelong Cycle
The "Black Hole" Without a Map
I found myself in a state of depression at age 13. It didn't end until age 53.
For forty years, I lived in a state of being that I can only describe as a deep, dark black hole. When you are in it, you don’t know how you got there, and you don’t have a map to get out. I’ve had people ask me, "What was your depression about?" but the truth is, it wasn't about anything happening in the outside world. It was a program running in the inside world.
I’ve been where life didn’t feel worth living, and at one point I even had a very clear plan to end it. But in January 2021, at one of my many low points, I discovered the Emotion Code®.
Identifying the "Gold"
The moment I saw Dr. Bradley Nelson being interviewed about the Emotion Code, I knew I was looking at the gold I needed. I didn’t even finish the interview before I ordered the book.
Most people might have a few trapped emotions here or there. When I sat down to muscle test what was responsible for my 40-year depression, my list was over 100 trapped emotions long. I was neurotic about it—I wanted to prove the system worked. I categorized them by the percentage they were responsible for the issue, by type, and by origin. (Trapped emotions can be experienced emotions, absorbed emotional energies, inherited trapped emotions, pre-conception trapped emotions, Heart-Wall emotions, and so on.)
I knew I couldn't clear forty years of energy in a single afternoon. Our bodies have a "processing limit" for how much energy they can release at once, and we are generally only able to release about 10 trapped emotions per session, give or take. I committed to the process, knowing this wasn't a one-and-done fix, but a deliberate journey of restoration.
The First Release: Not Just a Physical Act
I remember the day I started. I had been crying off and on all day, and I was physically exhausted. When I sat down to begin working on that list of 100+ trapped emotions, the first emotion up for release was Crying.
Now, in the Emotion Code®, "Crying" isn't just the act of shedding tears. It is defined as a response to pain, suffering, or a deep sense of helplessness. It’s that physical sensation you feel in your throat, chest, or diaphragm. Often, this emotion becomes trapped when we don’t allow ourselves to cry—when we suppress the reaction or stuff it down.
The trapped emotion of Crying I released that day was an old trapped emotion from my childhood. It had absolutely nothing to do with the tears I was crying at age 53. It was a 40-year-old frequency of helplessness that had been running in the background of my life like a faulty piece of software.
It wasn't a "magic wand" fix in that exact second, but the moment I released it, I felt a sense of relief. Something let up. For the first time, the "program" was shifting—and that was the beginning of the end for my depression.
Five Years of Light
It has been over five years since I cleared that list. In that time, I have not had a single day of that kind of depression. After 40 years of trying everything—from counselors to supplements—the "program" finally stopped.
While my personal breakthrough happened using the Emotion Code®, it’s important to remember that every individual’s energetic makeup is different. For some, releasing trapped emotions is the key. For others, the "program" might be deeper—requiring the Body Code™ to look at physical imbalances or the Belief Code® to uproot the core beliefs that keep those emotional patterns in place.
I’m not here to give medical advice or tell you to ditch your doctor. But I am here to tell you that there is an energetic component to the way we feel. If you are stuck in that hole and you don't have a map, the Emotion Code® might be the flashlight you’ve been looking for.
